Furious Mitchell Starc hurls mouthful on Rishab Pant
Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc is an animated character on the cricket pitch. He runs in with hostility and shoots in thunderbolts at the batsmen, many of whom have strained against the pacer from Buckingham Hills in New South Wales. However, he hasn’t had the best of series with the ball and has also been criticised by former Aussie greats including Shane Warne.
The Aussies are currently taking part in the four-match Test series and the third Test at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is underway. On a decent batting strip, the Indian batsmen made the Aussie bowlers toil hard for 169.4 overs. Starc himself bowled 28 overs and conceded 87 runs, picking up the crucial wickets of Indian skipper Virat Kohli and keeper Rishabh Pant.
Michael Starc outrage with Pant:
In the meantime, Starc was involved in an on-field banter with Pant. In the penultimate ball of the 167th over, Starc lashed out at Pant for running on the pitch. Starc dished out a Yorker and Pant creamed the ball through the cover region and gathered a couple of runs. However, while taking the first run, he had to run past the bowler and in the process, he stepped on the danger area.
Starc wasn’t satisfied with Pant’s actions and he complained about the same to the umpire, Ian Gould. The left-armer said, ”He’s f***ing done it again mate.” Then he looked back at Pant and said, “How dumb are ya?!” In the next ball, Starc vented his frustration and hurled in a bouncer at Pant at a pace of 147.5 kmph. The ball had pace and it hurried Pant to a large extent.
He was late on the pull shot and managed to send the ball down to fine leg for a single. In his very next over, another short delivery from Starc accounted for Pant’s wicket. Pant mistimed the shot and Usman Khawaja took a good catch at gully.
